Your Advocate in the Gulf

Happy Labor Day!

Today, I am officially announcing my campaign for MM&P Vice President of Gulf Ports and Government Contracts.

It is no exaggeration to say that I have been aboard more MM&P ships in the past 8 years than anybody at MM&P.  I meet ships because I believe the gangway is the most effective tool for the health of our Organization.  A well informed and active membership is key to our strength and resilience.

Personal connections with our Members is most important.  Many people hesitate to pick up the phone or put a question or concern in an email, but they will communicate to someone they know and trust and with whom they’ve formed a relationship.  I have been that person for almost eight years on the West Coast. Your elected representatives serve you!

I commit to you that if I am elected, MM&P will have an active presence in the Gulf and your Vice President will be based in the Houston hall:

  • supporting the Tampa Hall.
  • meeting ships in all Gulf Ports
  • building labor alliances, including with the ILA Locals in the Gulf.
  • Members will be invited to join me in representing MM&P on:
    • the West Gulf Ports Council, The Greater Mobile Port Maritime Council, and the Port Maritime Council of Greater New Orleans and Vicinity,
    • and the Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Council, the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO, Alabama AFL-CIO, and the Florida AFL-CIO for the Tampa area.
  • Our members aboard the Government Fleet, the Seacor Fleet, and the Hapag Lloyd/MTL Express Class Fleet will have an effective advocate. Committees of members will be involved in contract negotiations.  I can promise this because I have been involved in this hands-on representation and advocacy for nearly 8 years.

These are unprecedented times.  MM&P’s membership is meeting the challenge with the same tenacity and resolve as Merchant Mariners have shown throughout our history. Today our Members are “essential workers” carrying on the noble legacy of MM&P, keeping the supply chain open, delivering the goods, and keeping the economy afloat.

Please check out the website for more information and ways to contact me. Have a safe and healthy Labor Day!

    In Solidarity,

    Jeremy Hope
